"If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion."

Explore the living principles and practices of compassionate communication
in relationship to self, others, and community.
Can you imagine a world where relationships are true partnerships, where life is a celebration, where actions are guided by compassion? If you are longing to find a way to practice compassionate communication in your life, your relationships, your workplace, your community, or your political activity, please join us for a life-transforming exploration into compassion and the power of community.
We live in an increasingly fragmented world, awash with more information than we can possibly digest. Social media and news outlets tailor their messages to match what they think we want to hear. We live in perceptual enclaves, often preoccupied with amplifying the faults and flaws we see in other paradigms.
How do we find the underlying social cohesion required to solve the monumental challenges we face? Is it possible to connect across our differences and harvest the wisdom found in diverse perspectives? Can we resonate with differing points of view without trying to convert or “fix” them? How can the groundbreaking communication work of Marshall Rosenberg help build the coherence that invites community that is compassionate, able to solve problems and transform pain, revealing joy, celebration and gratitude?

We learn about community by being in community. There is nothing like an immersion to allow insight to penetrate our being and soak into our bones. Being together for 9 days will provide abundant opportunity to explore, practice, and deepen. Just as a community is diverse, the week will be diverse:
- Structured program time enables us to delve into well developed practices.
- Open Space Technology (OST) provides opportunity to work with energies that emerge during the program.
- Practice time with home groups supports processing and integration throughout the week.
- Daily reflection time allows insights to settle.
- Elective space gives participants a chance to try out or share their own program ideas.
- What nourishes the courage it takes to let go of outcome.
- Supporting people while staying grounded and present without the urge to fix or to avoid.
- Welcoming what is alive, even when it brings discomfort.
- Authenticity, ease, and life deepening feedback.
- Movement from discussion to action.
- The power of celebration and gratitude.
- Staying connected to what is precious in the midst of conflict.
- Practice groups, shared trainings, and community events.
- A quality of engagement that creates “an amazing sense of support”.
- How leadership and accountability flow in a power-with structure.
- Collaboration: accepting as well as offering.
- Welcoming and trusting the group wisdom.
- A member of an existing community, one whose "rich history" may include some resentments, one or two ruptured relationships or a stuck decision-making process.
- A leader or member of a community that's under stress or in conflict.
- A wellness practitioner, therapist, etc. exposed to direct and vicarious stress and woundings, who wants to explore new ways of listening.
- An activist working on the front lines of social justice and social change, and you want to be more effective and less easily hijacked by your anger, or stopped by anger expressed by "the other".
- Working to increase your influence in the world, to act with constructive power and empathy.
- Longing to find a way to practice compassionate communication in your life, your relationships, your workplace, and your community.
When we asked, "what is unique that RMCCN can contribute in a week long immersion?", the answer came swiftly from many different directions:
"We don't know how you do it, but somehow you manage to welcome people in and let them know they matter. "
"You manage to hold everyone in the container, balancing the needs of each individual and the whole group."
"You are able to meet people where they are."
