Community Based NVC: Creating a Culture of Care
Gain knowledge of NVC basics integrated with a social/racial Justice lens in a caring, power with,
NVC community.
Running Thursdays, April 16 - May 21 6:30 pm
Series Description:
Martin Luther King Jr. spoke of Beloved Community where the dignity of everyone was recognized. King did not vilify. He pointed out injustice and let the conditions speak for themselves. This visibility precipitated change and inspired actions. Communities came together guided by common visions and shared aspirations, and transformed society.
How do we see past our own implicit biases and predigests, recognize the dignity, and embody that welcoming Beloved Community? Answering this question is at the heart of the Creating A Culture Of Care program, Using NVC insights, techniques, and prejudices we explore how to support such a Culture Of Care where everyone’s needs are honored and people are empowered with skills to cultivate peace.
We use a NVC needs model with six layers of need related to:
1. Me: personality, lived experiences, self.
2. We: social, cultural, and personal identities.
3. Us: personal, you and I.
4. Mezzo: the space between individuals and large systems.
5. Macro: institutions, legislation, and large-scale systems.
6. Gaia: planetary health and well being, ecology.
"If I use nonviolent communication to liberate people to be less depressed, to get along better with their family, but do not teach them at the same time to use their energy to rapidly transform systems in the world, then I am part of the problem.”
~ Marshall Rosenberg
