Are you looking to understand yourself and someone else you may not be getting along with? Nonviolent Communication (NVC) is a set of tools, tried and true, which help us get in touch clearly with what's alive in us, and communicate it clearly, with minimal chance for distortion, to others.
This 6-week online course is tailored as a perfect onboarding to NVC. It covers all the basics and prepares you to take part in any ongoing NVC practice group. You'll also join a growing community of empathic listeners, ready to support you in your personal journey of showing up with more compassion in your own life.
WHEN
The course begins Wednesday January 21, 2026 and is scheduled for the following six weeks: 1/21, 1/28, 2/4, 2/11, 3/4, 3/11
This course works best with 100% attendance. Please let your instructor know ahead of time of any conflicts. A make-up session will be made available in the case of any necessary absence.

COST
We are offering this fundamentals training as donation-based. Pay what you will based on your means and the value you get out of the class. Later cohorts may have a required fee based on what we learn this time around.
The official textbook for this course is Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Life. You can find it online or at your local library.
WHAT
You will get a training in the fundamentals of NVC, which gets you access to the Denver NVC Practice Group, where we meet twice a month to heal and train our NVC skills.
WHO
This event is offered through the Rocky Mountain Compassionate Communication Network (RMCCN) as part of its ongoing mission to empower people to prevent or peacefully resolve conflicts and arrive at workable solutions that meet everyone's needs.
PREREQUISITES & HOMEWORK
Great for beginners who want to learn about NVC. Great for people who are familiar with NVC and want to deepen their practice.
To follow along with this class, we suggest you get the official textbook, Nonviolent Communication: A Language of Lifem by Marshall Rosenberg.
We will be mainly using the 3rd edition in class, but the 2nd edition also works.

For the first week we ask that you read Chapter 1. All other materials will be given and covered in class.
WHAT TO EXPECT
In this training you will...
- learn the fundamentals of NVC including OFNR (observations, feelings, needs, requests), empathic listening, and various exercises for applying the tools.
- receive a certificate of completion with total hours, which counts towards RMCCN and CNVC trainer accreditation.
- gain access to the East Denver NVC Practice Group, which meets twice a month to heal and train our NVC skills.

Mauro “Mo” Perez began studying Nonviolent Communication in 2017 as a means of addressing long-standing family conflicts. Since 2024, he has participated in over 30 NVC trainings and classes, serving as both student and facilitator. He is currently a member of the Rocky Mountain Compassionate Communication Network’s Community-Based Facilitator Preparation Circle and leads his own classes and practice groups in Denver. Mo also works with men’s circles, parts work (IFS), and grief recovery. His ongoing commitment is to support individual and collective healing through compassionate dialogue and embodied practice.
David Shindoll

David Shindoll, CNVC Certified Trainer and co-founder of the Rocky Mountain Compassionate Communication Network, has spent over 25 years creating environments based on mutual understanding and respect, boundaries based on needs, and an empowering compassion. David is passionate about learning, living, and sharing practices that transform how we relate to others and ourselves that are in alignment with our deepest values for truth, contribution, and love.
David holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Colorado College and a master’s degree in education from Loyola University. David has worked with children and their families for over 25 years in a variety of contexts from villages for abandoned children in Costa Rica, to Montessori schools in Taiwan, Bolivia, and the United States. David has been a teacher trainer in language at the Montessori Education Center of the Rockies and currently works as a first grade teacher in Denver, Colorado. David’s study of nonviolence also includes Focusing, yoga, and a meditation practice.
