W-Pause – A White Accountability Group

White People Accountability To Understand And Speak Equity

With Susan Kaplan

Wednesday, July 29, 5:00-7:00 pm MDT

Actively participating in racial dialogues and change work? Do you track your mistakes & learn? Where do you get stuck? Want Support? Racial work is uncomfortable & messy. White to white accountability is authenticity, questions, empathy, and wrestling together in order to reduce our negative impact on BIPOC. Be responsible together

  • Are you actively participating in racial dialogues and change work?
  • Does your passion for social change get you in trouble?
  • In what ways would you appreciate support for this uncomfortable & messy work?

How do you, as a white advocate, show up in racial conversations and efforts for change in a way that does not actually harm BIPOC ((Black, Indigenous and People of Color)? Who would benefit: if you are actively engaging in diversity, equity and inclusion conversations, bringing these dialogue into work, congregational and other settings, or want to learn to hold each other accountable, this group is for you!

In our well-meaning way, passionate white people can pick strategies that we think are supporting others but have a harmful impact on BIPOC individuals and organizations.

Come have an authentic conversation, ask questions, share how you track your mistakes, and how your own needs of being seen as a Good White Person (or other versions of being a Good Christian, Good Jew, or other versions) get in your way.
Our white to white self-responsibility is unlearning the shame, blame and guilt of whiteness and learning how to move towards a new paradigm of love and care that truly brings about the well being of all peoples.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion work feels pressing right now and yet it is vital that we slow down to take responsibility for our words and actions. How do we repair a connection we have broken by an unintentional impact of our words or behavior? In what ways do you step up too often? Are you aware of the power-over habits white people have learned from our Domination system?

This initial session are white-to-white conversations - people who are committed to social justice and peace making work. Our focus is our need to be accountable of the impact of our steps as we try to walk with our BIPOC sisters and brothers. We will explore common needs and practice calling each other in with love and care. At the end of the gathering, we will talk about regular W-PAUSE Accountability groups,
